Angie Chapman, GGG PhD Student, receives 2018 James Beard Foundation Legacy Scholarship

Angie Chapman, a second-year PhD Student in the Geography Graduate Group, is the recipient of a 2018 James Beard Foundation Legacy Scholarship. The James Beard Foundation's mission is to celebrate, nurture, and honor chefs and other leaders making America's food culture more delicious, diverse, and sustainable for everyone. The award will support Angie as she continues her doctoral studies and pursues research on addressing the root causes of food insecurity in the United States. Angie holds a B.A. and M.A. in Geography from Bowling Green State University and Ohio University, respectively. At UC Davis, Angie works with Dr. Ryan Galt and has served as a teaching assistant for classes on food systems, American Studies, sociology of education, and career and major exploration for first-year students. In addition to receiving a James Beard Legacy Scholarship, Angie has received scholarships from the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, the Gamma Theta Upsilon International Geographical Honor Society, and several departmental and university awards and honors.
