GGG PhD Candidates Ryan Miller and Mitchell Snyder were recently interviewed by NPR's national desk about their experience researching wildfire recovery, which focuses primarily on the 2018 Camp Fire in Butte County, California.
Ryan and Mitchell, both Butte County natives, are committed to helping tell the stories of those who lived through the fire, and examining the socioeconomic dimensions of displacement and reconstruction in the region. They recently completed a survey of over 600 displaced households, whose experiences were the focus of their NPR interview.
In addition to discussing the progress of recovery in the town of Paradise, the pair of articles highlight some key obstacles that those affected by wildfires face – including Paradise residents five years after the fire.
Ryan and Mitchell were deeply honored at this opportunity to raise awareness about the lingering impacts of climate-driven disasters which can affect communities from Paradise to Lahaina.
